Rialto Heart Of Broadway

Location: Broadway, Newmarket, Auckland

Completion: December 1995

Value: $750,000

The shopping mall system was installed comprising a central cooling tower and pump set reticulating condensing water to each tenancy while fresh air was provided by a number of roof mounted fresh air AHUs. The foodcourt was air conditioned by a packaged roof mounted AHU while new smoke exhaust fans were installed at the top of the central mall. Tenancies were then fitted out with air conditioning or fresh air systems to the tenants’ requirements under separate fitout contracts.

The refurbished cinemas and new biobox were air conditioned by roof mounted packaged AHUs with new projector and toilets exhaust systems and a new smoke exhaust and control system. Various other toilets and tenancy exhaust system were also installed with roof mounted exhaust fans.

The Project:

The shopping mall complex was a combination of new and existing buildings in order to maintain the character of the original Rialto cinema and shopping precinct. A central pedestrian mall linked a variety of shops and central foodcourt to an adjacent refurbished cinema complex. Shops were accessible from the mall and the main pedestrian route along Broadway. The mechanical services were undertaken as a design and build project.
