Telecom NZ (Victoria Square)

Project Details:

Location: 165-167 Victoria Street West, Auckland CBD

Completion: November 2010

Value: $17,500,000

The mechanical services installed in the towers include passive radiant Chilled Beams distributed throughout level 3 to level 8 and Fan coil units to the lower retail levels.  Each tower contains two chillers totalling 1MW of cooling. We were asked to identify a suitable air conditioning system for Telecom Place and to provide a control system specifically tailored to the project. We worked with the developer and consultants to identify the right cooling system, accompanying them to Australia to view a range of chilled beam systems in operation. We collectively determined that the Frenger radiant cooling passive chilled beam system was ideal.  As the technology had not been utilised in New Zealand before, a contingent from Economech Services travelled to the Frenger facility in the UK to run a series of performance tests.

The Project:

The Telecom site is the single biggest city office building platform in New Zealand. The office complex consists of four office towers that are joined together by a central atrium and sky bridges.  Below the towers is a common underground basement car park. The total NLA is 30,000m2. The project received a 5 Green star rating and numerous other awards.
