The mechanical services comprises five new air handling units for the new building and six smaller air handling units for the existing building including surgical suites. A new water cooled chiller works in sequence with an existing chiller while the existing cooling towers remain in service. Heating water is provided by the existing heat exchangers supplied from the energy centre.

Air conditioning in the various areas is via in ceiling fan coil units, heating coils and VAV terminals with heating and chilled water pipework and fresh air supply to suit. Surgical theatres also utilised new HEPA filters which were specially commissioned to the highest hygienic requirements. 

Both buildings also received new medical gases pipework systems and wall outlets served from existing medical gases. These systems were also commissioned to strict hygienic requirements.

The Project:

The new building extension was completed and opened first then the existing eight story block refurbished floor by floor as occupancies and relocations allowed. Considerable effort was required to site survey each floor to ensure existing services remained operational while the new services were being installed.
