Auckland Central Remand Prison

Location: Lauder Road, Mt Eden, Auckland

Completion: May 2000

Value: $3,900,000

The heating water and hot water systems were supplied by two boilers, heat exchangers and respective pump sets located in a central boiler room while the cold water supply was from street mains with booster pumps. A tempered secondary hot water circuit with pump sets was also provided for energy saving during low load periods. The chilled water was by means of single air cooled chiller located in the central plantroom.

Air conditioning to the relevant areas was by means of several AHUs and FCUs with various fan systems providing ventilation to specific areas including an extensive kitchen fresh air and exhaust system. All systems controls were linked into a common BMS system as was the fire mode and smoke exhaust systems.

The Project:

The prison has a variety of different areas requiring various environments including the visiting entrance, visitors’ rooms, cellblocks, processing rooms, control rooms, medical centre, isolation rooms, day wards together with kitchen, toilets and amenities. This was a completely new building which also required us to provide the hot and cold water systems together with a riot booster system and fire mode controls.
